Be Positive!

March 3 2009 at 5:50 PM

Rick Gelinas

I'm becoming tired of hearing how bad things are! Right from the start, I've REFUSED to buy into the concept that the ship is sinking. Sure, I recognize that the economy is having some serious problems. But why should I let the pessimists suck me into the vortex along with the mass of unhappy people who have committed themselves to failure?

Tough times require action! Now's the time to be more creative than ever. It's a time to be bold. It's a time for positive energy. In fact that is part of the reasoning that went into my recent decision to expand our business and move our store into a nice new location. I feel that it's important to keep moving forward --- if we pull over to the side of the road in business, it begins the process of a slow death.

Well at any rate, that is how I've been feeling, and today I discovered this interesting article in Business Week that supports the idea of remaining positive in business. Check it out.

I agree. It really helps if you turn off the news. Don't listen to it at all. You will be surprised at how better you will feel about things.

I wish my customers would stop watching the news!....If the "Chicken Little mentality" media would just stop telling everyone "The sky is falling", then EVERYONE would start spending more and this vicious circle will clear itself up!

Boy, it's hard to keep positive when the $$ isn't coming in; I didn't even have one job today! and only 3 jobs booked for the rest of the week (My norm is 3 per day!)

BUT what I did instead of moping around all bummed out is that I worked all day on creating a database of good companies, worked on learning Entourage (mac's version of outlook), and worked on my cold calling script, so within a few days I will have an imprint of my telephone embossed on the side of my face!

Tomorrow, after my one job, I'm going to spend the afternoon finishing up the cold calling script & work on my next residential postcard & send letters to clients that havent used us in over a year with 15% off their last cleaning price to jump start them a little...

Like it has been said before - If you ain't cleanin' you should be sellin'...

I've been reading some other magazines for years that have described this system as a sinking ship. The comparison has often been made to the Titanic. We just don't know exactly when it is going completely under.

There are a lot of people on the planet with far greater problems that need solutions than the fall of the stock market.

I totally agree with the need to have a positive view of the future. That optimism just needs to be based on something greater.

Of course your comments are correct David. I was strictly referring to the aspect of economics and business. A positive perspective is vital in business! And while a positive attitude will go far in business, the greater problems of the world will ultimately require divine intervention happy.gif

There are only so many things we can control. Why worry about what we can't.

Also, take each day at a time. A wise man once said not to be anxious about tomorrow because you already have enough to worry about today.

Easier said than done, but it helps.
