Don't use a cimex. Silk is a delicate protein fibre. If you want to practice on silk rugs, use your own, not your clients. If you want to do the right thing by your client, refer the job to an expert, or collect the rug and deliver/pick it up yourself.

Being all commercial, we see alot of silk area rugs in the offices of CEO's, Presidents, VP's, etc. We clean them right where they sit. No problem, they come out beautiful...

I agree, I would'nt use a Cimex. We use a rotary (slow speed) with a Neutral bonnet cleaner. We use a upholstery machine and special cleaner for fringe. Rake to groom.

Since this is Ricks site I'm not going to say what product I use. We just started using some of Ricks products. So I dont know much about all his products yet. But I would not have a problem using Releasit DS with a rotary or oscillating machine along with one of his bonnets, maybe the Tuway ones. I believe the Releasit is in the 8 ph range.

I wanted to say use Punch but I'm not sure about the PH. Maybe Rick could jump in with some info.

If the PH is 8 on DS, isn't that too high?

I may have cotton and silk confused.

Yes your right. Like I said we use a neutral bonnet cleaner to clean silk and they come out beautiful. I was trying to find a Releasit product that would give you the same results I get. I thought the Releasit DS would be close to a neutral ph. I figured Rick will chime in...

My point was that silk rugs can be bonnet/op cleaned.

Yes Encap-Clean DS is very close to neutral when it's in dilution. I don't personally have much experience with silk (I've always been a commercial cleaner for the most part). So 'll let those who are the experts give advice on cleaning silk.

We hand clean all our silk rugs. I don't know that I would put the Cimex on a silk rug. Also, make sure it is silk and not art. silk.
