Do any of you do leather or vinyl repair? If so, where did you learn the skills?

Crikey, this is gonna be a P.A.N. question

April 16 2009, 2:53 AM

I clean, repair and restore leather furniture.

I also clean leather clothing.

I also "color enhance" selected items.

& I love it !!!

Actually, I did a C & P on a "P" suite this morning.

AU$330.00 for 1.5 hours work in air conditioned comfort.

Now I'm going to do this in reverse, I hope this is okay with you Rick.

Here's a great website to start with:

http://www.leathercleaningrestorationforum.com/forum/index.php

Roger Koh is the Gentleman that owns the show, & yes, he is a Gentleman.

Before learning how to clean leather, you must first learn how to identify leather.

Not all leathers are equal.

You best contact Roger to see what courses he can offer you.

Roger is in B.C. & also has his own line of specialty products.

Tony Wheelwright (AKA) Harry Hides is also a specialist leather repairer & restorer.

Tony I think, is in the throes of moving to B.C. & may be hard to track down, although he does frequent Mikey's Board.

Tony can be a tad eccentric, but once you figure the guy out, he's top shelf.

***** Found Harry putting some Doo-doo on me elsewhere wink.gif

Lonnie McDonald is an acknowledged expert in the field of leather cleaning and also conducts regular courses.

His leather manuals are priceless.

www.leatherpro.org

Lonnie is over in that funny speak part of the country, near the Mason Dixie line I think. wink.gif & also has his own line of products.

Steve Poulos from Bridgepoint is also an excellent & very entertaining instructor.

Steve is in N.C.

I'm pretty sure that Jon-Don also hold leather courses, as well as most of the major suppliers.

Whatever you do, don't PRACTICE on anyones leather furniture unless you are prepared to buy it. wink.gif

I hope I haven't broken any forum rules here, and that you find this useful.

Thanks Shorty

I have actually been to couple of leather cleaning classes years ago. I am not really talking about cleaning. I was hoping for info on repairing; rips, punctures, burns, etc. I know that there are techniques for repairing cracked / damaged leather. I just don't know where to go to get more info.
