Partition Cleaning - best way to do it? and pricing?

May 18 2009 at 3:20 PM
Derek

i have my own method of encap cleaning them, but what i am wondering is how should we set them up?

i mean, we have done a huge sliding wall several times before. but these are typical office partitions and they are laying on the floor. should we clean them laying down, or should we stand them up? there are 75 of them, i cant see in my mind how we are going to handle that many in an area that is not so large...we cant lay all 75 out on the floor.

not sure what to charge either.

there are 76 panels, 4' wide by 5' tall and there is of course 2 sides to each.

any ideas on pricing?

thanx --- Derek.

We usually get $10.00 a side and average 10-12 an hour.

You can always clean them and lean 4-5 against each other with foam blocks between the metal tops.

This should allow enough spacing to allow them to dry. I would also use an airmover to aid in drying.

They are easy to clean as long as you control moisture.

I agree with Richard on the pricing. All the ones we usually clean are standing when we clean them. So I don't usually have the problem you are describing. As for as cleaning goes though we just take a drill and a pad driver and get a spray bottle of Releasit DS and water and spray the panels and then use the drill and pad driver. It goes pretty fast for a while until you get tired of bending down to the bottom. Works better with two people so one can clean a while and then switch. We usually do this in conjunction with carpet cleaning and so having two people is not a problem. One using the Cimex and one cleaning panels and ever so often switch.

Back Breaking Bearers

These can be a pain as Kevin said.

But not if you work your head instead of your muscles.

You do need a bit of room.

This is a two person operation for many panels.

Also two support stands to lean the panels against.

You stand all the panels behind each other.

Pre-spray one panel and clean the top half.

Your helper rolls the panel end for end until the clean part is at ground level.

You then clean the top section.

After all are clean, you simply reverse the system, cleaning the opposite side and putting back to their original position.

It does take a little bit of getting used to, but once you get it down pat, it is really easy.

And use the Little Mak; instead of the drill. wink.gif

Now there is also another way of doing this if you are short on room and the panels are in a line.

Purchase the small "knee roller" that people who clean grout use.

I don't know what the proper name is.

This is a small plastic base that you kneel on and it has caster wheels underneath.

Kneeling in this, you clean the bottom section, then roll along to the next area to be cleaned.

Some carpet will not allow the wheels to roll so easy in which case I have used my "mechanics seat", again this you sit on and wheel yourself along.

The good thing about the seat is you can stick a spotter bottle under the seat for those pesky marks as well as clean bonnets.

Hope this is of some help.

Ooroo,

May 19 2009, 6:50 AM

Hi there

I'm just having a website built over in the UK aimed purely at the commercial side.

We have photos for visual interpretations of what services we provide, the only pic's I have not been able to get are some partitions being cleaned, It's a big ask but if you or anyone else could help me out with this I'd really appreciate it.

Many thanks

Paul

Carpeted and fabric covered wall partitions can be cleaned using the bonnet method with Releasit.

1. Get a window washing strip washer
2. Get an extension pole if you'll be doing tall walls
3. Mix up a bucket of Releasit

Dunk & wring out the strip washer in the bucket of Releasit. Mop the walls with the strip washer. Dunk & wring the strip washer frequently. Replace the water as it gets soiled.

Here's what an UNGER brand strip washer looks like. They're available from any good janitor supply house...

I have used this method to successfully clean tall sliding fabric walls that separate banquet rooms. This process worked very well for me and it was easy to do.

As far as pricing goes, you can figure that according to your own business needs. A 5' x 5' partition can be cleaned in about 10 minutes or less.
