Ah what a great invention microfibre is. Yes Steve, Brad hit the nail right on the head.
It's funny that a bonnet capable of "cleaning up" can be a delicate little thing in the post care department.
I tired a few different styles of bonnets that were hard to acquire here in Australia.
They all cleaned with reasonable results, some bounced back well in the laundry & some just gave up the ghost!
Microfibre being such a hero in encap penetration & soiling removal; is also quite friendly to maintain.
I agree with Brad wholeheartedly. His tips on rinsing during a job are spot on. Washing at days end is a matter of soaking in cold water without chemicals for an hour or so. Then wash in cold water with a neutralising additive or microfibre rinse aid.
Microfibre will release the soiling just as easy as it collects the stuff. (Now theres a sensational name for a product right there! OH yeah its Ricks!) Rick has sourced the best & most durable MFBs so get ordering!
I've imported a huge box of the suckers to really test them out. In Australia we have a high percentage of fine delicate residential wool installations. I found that traditional nylon bonnets & pads were way too aggressive. Microfibre addressed these issues with added soil removal properties - a real bonus.
Like anything relatively new in our industry, their will always be a hiccup or two to hurdle. Seems MFBs work best under traditional rotary machines with solid base plates. Velcro adapters can shorten the MFBs life.
Base plates that are not rigid, allow the bonnet to have plenty of torsion movement.
At carpet level, this results in diminishing cleaning results. The kinetic energy of the machine is lost as it travels down through a bonnet that moves around too much. So really greater levels of success will unfortunately be experienced in relation to your weapon of choice (or what I call your 'Brush Mount')
I've hammered these MFBs for 3 years now. I've purposely removed all other types of pads from my van to force me on a daily basis to adapt. In my eyes, just like Releasit has; (there's that name again!) Microfibre has been a godsend in furthering my journey to encapping nirvana.
I have one bonnet that I just love. Its my first. It's all squishy & floppy now. I save it for brand new domestic residential installations that may need a clean.
It's been my control bonnet for 2 years; been washed for 380 cleaning days straight; and has generated $66,000. AUD & counting! Not bad for a piece of fabric! MFBs will actually clean better the longer you own them. The fibres will split and become very fine, cleaning & grabbing soiling even more.
But remember to wash gently, or it wont live long! Here are a few pics of my Microfibre journey thus far.
Those encap boys in Australia can order these from me as well.
