upright dry vacuum

Al Taylor

I noticed that my brush roller on my hoover conquest 1800 stops when I put my hand against it.

I bought some new back-up v-belts. I installed it correctly. Still get the same thing. Wondering if I changed the wrong belt as there are two types on the conquest. 1. The V-belt 2.flat belt.

Both my conquest are down with the same problem. Any feed back?

Hi Al,

Normally a monster vac like that would take your hand, like one of Shorty's crocs' up in Cairns!
This time around I think your vacs have lost their puff and; are kindly giving in to the fact that theyd rather be reincarnated as Dysons! Sorry I don't have a serious answer for you.

Alex,

That is very strange. Replacing the belts should have taken care of that. Is the brush roller spinning freely?

Check this

Take out the roller and look at the sides, sometimes hair and stuff gets caught up arounnd the sides and will not let the bar roll the way it should.

Rechecked.....

June 30 2009, 11:12 PM

.....was the brush roller spinning freely? YES

I took the sides off. (By the way I didn't even think to take sides off as i was under the inpression that the brush roller is replaced as a whole when gone bad)

Did the sides have hair ect? YES

There was tons packed in there I couldn't believe it. I cleaned it all out. Every strand!

Was the brush roller spinning freely? YOU BET!

Its spinning the way it should now. Before it spinned freely but didn't realize there was a hinderence.

Can I stop the brush roller with my hand now? YES, but not without buffing out (burning) my fingers.

Thanks Guys

I'm glad you got to the bottom of your problem. What a relief!

I'll keep this thread in mind because I have 2 double conquests and one 18" running a lot.
