Preventive Maintenance Packet - anyone hand them out?

August 30 2009 at 5:29 PM
Derek

i was thinking of putting one of these together for my commercial clients. i was brainstorming during a job yesterday, as I noticed their walk-off mats were way to small.

here are a few things i was thinking of putting in my Preventive Maintenance Packet...please feel free to add to the list:

1) recommend that the client buy (and then instruct and "encourage" it's usage...) travel mugs (with lids) for all employees, to help prevent spills. they can even put their company logo on them. realistically, this wont stop even most of the spills, but it might lessen it a few... and it shows them that i care about keeping their carpet looking it's best in between my visits.

2) walk-off mats at all entrances. and i cant recall how many feet in length is appropriate here...maybe Rick or Ray can chime in. it would also be nice to have the number for a good mat service provider, as several of my clients have asked me about this and i always tell them "i dont know" lol...

3) uhhhh i forgot my #3....will edit / add it in later.

so who can share what they give their clients in this regard?

I don't have a packet, but i think it's a good way to show that you care for their place as you mentioned.

Vacuuming and Vacuums

Other than saying how often they should vacuum...thought maybe add a "sticker" or contact info to companies they could use when their vacs breakdown or need a check up. This could be a venture marketing for both your company and the other your networking with. Offer to do a "free" check up on the facility vacs(if they have in house cleaners/employees vaccing), most of the time their vacs are clogged and they don't know. The vac stores usually have a small "tag" sticker that they add to their vac bags that contains their logo/store info. You could get one made up w/ both company names next to it and stick to their vacs, so when they needed service no need to look it up in the yellow pages. The store can also give your clients a 10-20% off on service/bags.

This will make the vac stores want to market your company now w/out you having to ask them for business. Once your clients approached the stores, you can go by the store and see how everything is...to keep in touch etc...than imply about leaving a customized brochure about your company...this way you don't look greedy asking for work since you're already doing a venture with them.

Hi Derek,

I've been down that path with my days of corporate accounts with Lexus. Don't go there - especially the coffee cups. Most people have their 'old favourite' mug or cup that reminds them of a loved one or special gift. The office environment can be hell, so let them keep a bit of hope in their coffee.
Heres a little extract about coffee & people - so grab a cuppa - put your feet up & enjoy...

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups have been taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of life we live.
