I agree, I would'nt use a Cimex. We use a rotary (slow speed) with a Neutral bonnet cleaner. We use a upholstery machine and special cleaner for fringe. Rake to groom.

Above is a statement by Pual C. on a previous post. The planetary head of the Cimex makes it very safe because it actually un-do the damage fibers, as it were. So why wouldn't that apply to the silk fibers? Where as OP and rotary promotes a high risk of bloom ect.

I'm not questioning the prof'nlism of the silk cleaning expert, Just want to understand the WHY.

O.K. , What about this...

Is the vacuuming process the same as with wool?

A silk / wool rug can present challenges. Silk fiber can be distorted more easily than wool. There's a chance that the rug may bleed colors. There's a chance it could shrink. In other words, there are a number of concerns when dealing with silk that you may not be prepared for. That's why the true rug cleaners command a good price for their service and proceed with extreme care.

An option I would consider would be to use dry powder. The powder is brushed through the fiber and it absorbs the soil into the powder. After the powder has dried, the powder gets vacuumed up. It's a simple approach that's relatively safe to use with delicate fibers.

We sell Brush & Clean powder. It's very good, one of the best in the industry.

most rugs that have those percentages being sold retail right now are goign to be the hand tufted rugs.. mostly sold by Nourison. They love using wool for the fields and most decor and then add in silk accents all over the rug.

Let us know what brand it is if there is a tag. And if its a woven or tufted rug.

But if its a Nourison, you won't have to worry about bleeding as long as you keep your pH close to neutral. Here is a process we would use in our plant if the rug was not heavily soiled.

Vac the rug very well front and back and front again.(we use a badger and then vac)

Mist the rug with cold dilution a woolsafe prespray diluted at half strength or less. (we like FF from masterblend, but I fathom you would be ok to us encap punch diluted at half strength. Go over the entire rug with your soft pads. Do a quick cold water extraction, keying the wand only on the backstroke. Only going over the area once and work your way down from the top of the rug. (the pile will lay towards the bottom) Go over it again with a dry pad. and put some fans down for quick drying.

WELL NOW !!!!! don't want to highjack this thread, but.....

I'm still shorter than Rick even when I wear my high heels. wink.gif

But I am marginally taller than Danny DeVito without them. happy.gif

So we sound like we may be about the same height, although I am named after the second southern most county in Ireland, so I doubt we are related. wink.gif

I am also well known for my "Irish goodbyes". happy.gif
