water stain

By accident, 2 gallon diluted detergent (3 oz per gallon) is poured onto the carpet last sunday. I extracted a lot with portable extractor right after the accident. Now the client said it turned into brown color. The stain's area 2x2 sqft. The carpet's color is light yellow.

I have both steam cleaning extractor and orbot.

Could you advise how I can fix it. Someone suggested to extract more and put browning treatment onto it. I don't if it will work.

Thanks in advance
Jason

It could possibly just be wicking because so much water got into the carpet and pulled stuff up when it evaporated. If that is the case then using your Orbot with DS would probably do the trick.

If it is indeed browning, you could use Hydrox. Saturate the area, allow to dwell. The browning should disappear. Extract or OP depending on how much Hydrox you put down. If some browning still remains you could use Stain Magic.

Need more info, carpet type makes a difference on CGD I would use Releaseit DS lightly then run a dry fiberplus pad on the stain for a full minute then air mover dry. On residential I would need to know the carpet type and fiber.

I'm assuming when you extracted you used a defoamer not only in the extractor but in the carpet as well?

type of carpet

Thanks for all of the great response. The carpet type might be commercial/mainstreet.

The detergent poured on the carpet doesn't have foam. The detergent is called procyon. So I didn't use defoamer.

Thanks

Hi Jason:

It appears to just be wicking. All that water and detergent went in and dissolve the dirt and the soil naturally wicks to the surface. The best thing would be to use a cotton pad with your orbot, mist the stain with a 25% solution of Releasit DS from a trigger sprayer. wring out your cotton pad as dry as you can get it and place under your orbot and proceed to pad it out. This should solve your problem.

Thanks Rick.

I only have hydrox for now. I will try it.
Actually, I have tried this way a while ago on a commercial carpet (dark purple). There were some dark stains there. I used orbot, fiberplus and encap detergent with 1:3 ratio. The stains were removed. However, there were some bleaching on those spots. I am wondering if you guys have met this.

Thanks
Jason

Excellent comments above! Yes, it is a result of wicking from soil that's down at the backing of the carpet. CGD "commercial glue down" carpets can load up a ton soil at the backing of the carpet beneath the tufts of pile. And this soil build-up at the backing can contribute to a wicking problem, especially if the caret gets soaked. The solution: clean it again with a LOW MOISTURE method. And Encap-HydrOx would be a perfect choice since one of its features is that it stops browning. It should turn out just fine.
