Carpet Mill Tour

I took the CCMT class at Tandus this week - what an awesome class! John Garger was a true gentleman and, boy, does he know his stuff! The Tandus facility is also amazing. This is my first carpet mill tour and it was incredible! I hope to tour the other mills someday...a lot to be learned...It was also pretty cool driving by other facilities - I'm staying at the hotel 2 buildings away from the carpet & rug institute (CRI)

Joe,

That's cool. I'm glad you had a chance to enjoy this experience. Tandus was the first mill I toured too (it was just called Collins & Aikman back then). That was quite a few years ago now. Tandus is very focused on "commercial" carpet and its care, since they only produce commercial products. Their Powerbond process is very unique and their products are among the best in the industry. And John Garger is forward thinking when it comes to low moisture cleaning. He spoke to us at the LMCCA when the organization was still very much in its infancy, and he's been a an LMCCA board member for several years now. Congrats on your experience! If you get a chance to tour Shaw's facilities that will be interesting too. Knowledge is powerful stuff.

Approaching Old Timer Status

December 4 2009, 7:14 AM

I remember 20 years ago, John was running a Bane Clene truckmount around Dalton and I was running a Bane Clene truckmount around McDonough. He was a first class guy then and I'm sure he is today. I have nothing but respect for him. Glad you enjoyed the class Joe. Every CCer should go on a Mill Tour (I've been on 11 of them) it just gives you a better understanding of this industry.
