What is the best floor machine for Encap?

December 7 2009 at 3:13 AM

I need to get a floor machine. What machine should I be looking at? Should I be looking more at OP machines or just a standard rotary machine?

My personal preference

My personal preference is the Cimex. It's the best in the most situations.

It would depend on what you are doing.

If you are doing mostly residential or small offices, I would recommend looking at the Orbot OP machine. It will be more maneuverable and a wider variety of pad selection.

If you are doing mostly commercial, especially big areas. The Cimex is king. You can't beat the production and agitation.

I agree with Kevin, you'll get better results with the Cimex. I like the Orbot for OP.

Agitation

December 7 2009, 4:45 PM

All you need is a bucket and a brush.
Any form of agitation will work.

But for my money, I'd rather have a Cimex.
It produces greater agitation than any machine on the market.

Best Machine

December 7 2009, 10:04 PM

Depends.

I have an Orbot, Cimex, Whittaker CRB and a floor machine (175 Rotary).

The Cimex and the Whittaker CRB are the easiest to operate. The Cimex is way faster but is heavy, so you probably would never use it in a home for pre-scrubbing. The Whittaker CRB is much slower to use on commercial but is very light (and a little delicate). It works great for pre-scrubbing carpet prior to HWE. Both are an investment.

Orbot looks cool and is much lighter than the Cimex - a big advantage if you have to unload and load by yourself and don't have room for a ramp. I personally think it doesn't encap as well oras fast as the Cimex. Oddly, I think it doesn't handle in tight situations as well as the Cimex either if you are using the Spray Borg feature. However, you can use it to OP which removes more soil than encapping alone. The Orbot is a sizable investment. Did I mention it looks cool.

Floor machine, arguably the most difficult to learn how to use. But it is inexpensive and simple but don't look cool at all. It does all of the above satisfactory but not as effeciently. Some guys swear by them, but I've outgrown mine. If you've every had a bonnet fold underneath your floor machine and send it flying you know what I mean.

If you are looking for an all around performer get a floor machine with a tank. If you are going to use it for a specific use choose the one that fits the best.

Good post! I think that sums it up very well.

I've been spoiled by the Orbot and Cimex. I have never used a standard rotary before and probably never will. These two machines are so user friendly yet produce amazing results.

I wouldn't want to be without either one.

Crb to me is better on carpet with higher pile, such as residential. I use it on my own carpet when I want a really quick cleaning. Carpet looks great in 20 minutes.

The irony of the rotary is that it can be considered a good entry level machine, yet it is the hardest to learn to use.

Now for an upside down view of things..........

December 8 2009, 7:12 AM

I've been using rotaries for carpets and vinyl since 1971.

I listened to, and watched, an old bloke in his fifties as he stripped a vinyl floor and explained how it worked.

I have never had a problem using any rotary, even in very confined spaces.

I disagree that the Cimex is to big and heavy to use in a domestic setting, I use mine everyday in this way.

Even going so far as standing the handle upright and working the Mex; inside small walk-in wardrobes.

I have found the Mex; to be an extremely versatile piece of engineering excellence.

I would much rather use the Mex; as a scrubber than muck around with a rotary polisher/scrubber again.

I have a set of ramps, 3 feet long. which I use to put the Mex; into & out of my van.

It is not hard to do.

Likewise, taking the Mex; up four flights of stairs a couple of days is not hard ONCE YOU MODIFY THE WHEELS & CONTROL YOUR BREATHING AND LIFTING.

Take a breath when you are ready to lift the Mex; up a step and exhale as you pull it up that step.

Same going down, exhale as you take the weight and lower the Mex; to the next step.

The two fears that I have owning a Mex; is that I will be able to continue cleaning until I am old, and SORRY !!! K.R.A.F.T. has slipped in again and I can't remember the second fear. wink.gif

I don't own a Orbot, I have used one and liked what I was able to do with it.

I shall be purchasing one within the next six months, complete with solution tank and Sprayborg.

Even with my 3' ramps, the Orbot is very easy to load and unload from a van.

Many benefits for achieving drier carpet with the Orbot.

I have never used a CRB so cannot comment on them, however my good mate Rambo used to swear by them some time back.

Hope I haven't been to confusing this time.

Strike a light, look at the flamin' time, I should be in the cot punchin' out zzzzzzzz's

Ya Gotta Love Him

December 9 2009, 6:30 AM

I Love reading a post by the Short One who is in his "cot" and I just got out of mine. Someome asked me if I woke up grouchy, well nooooo, I just let her sleep. I still love the CRBs and use them most every week. I might use them for pre-scrubing or stand alone w/ Releasit Basic. With three sets of brushes ( grey, blue and black)and 15" and 20" widths you can cover alot of area in a hurry. I agree with Marty about the real world of CCing we live in (not the Internet world of 55 cents a square foot) speed is important. I also agree with Shorty that the Cimex is easy to use even in a denist office around the chairs, much easier than a Orbit type machine. We own two Orbit (15" and 20" w/on board sprayer) 175/300 floor machine and one Cimex machine. My favorite machines to run all day is the CRBs, easy to tote, load on the vans, use very little space.

op gets my vote

December 9 2009, 12:52 PM

ill be the solo guy to say the orbot ahead of the mex :P just to be different lol

the cimex is also a great machine as ive used them as well, but i feel you can get better results by padcapping, and from my experience they are equally easy to operate

and yes you can achieve fantastic results by padcapping :P, hence the pic

just my 2 cents

by using microfiber pads you really only need to bring a few with you to your " average " commercial account. Just wash them in a mop bucket as you go.

I have never tried an OP machine, Only a Cimex. All I have to say is that I love my Cimex. It is a total workhorse. It has made my life much easier and more profitable.

Not only does it clean CGD carpets well, but I've used it to strip floors and scrub large tile jobs (Yesterday, I cleaned 1000 sqft of Saltillo and my Mex made it easy)

ME, PLEASE, TAKE MINE

December 10 2009, 5:11 AM

You can have it for US$5,000.00 down, & US$1.00 over the next five years with NO INTEREST.

Call today.

I will even include an extra set of drive boards, ( refurbished, but nearly as good as new ), 1 box of Beige pads & 1 box of grey Max pads.

These pads have all individually been tested to ensure greater user satisfaction.

Customised ten inch pneumatic wheels that have been run-in over several years.

Custom modified pig tail cord with cable safety joiner. This allows the user to select the correct length of extension lead for the job at hand.

All ports fully cleaned and base pressure washed with garden hose.

Sports style scratches and abrasions to simulate great wear to any prospective customer when doing demo's.

This lets them feel comfortable in that the operator has performed many hours work in the commercial sector.

This is a limited time offer, and all freight charges must be pre-paid by the purchaser, 'cos I need to buy another wun.

Don't delay, this will soon be snapped up by someone.

We accept bank check, visa, paypal, cash, jewellery or vacant houses.
