Orbot Modification

I have been getting tired of performing many extra passes on filthy berber and CGD carpets. I decided some extra weight would make a difference. So here is what I did.

I bought 2 8lb dumbells and put a strip of velcro on each end:

Then I took a small grinder and notched out an area in the middle of the weights to give them a better fit next to the bolt heads on the deck hinge. Then I wrapped some black electrical tape around the ground out areas to prevent noise and rust.

Then I put velcro on the Orbot deck.

This is what they look like on the deck.

This has definitely made a difference. Far fewer passes and the 1 horse motor has no problem at all with the extra weight. The weights also stay attached when I flip the head up to change pads.
Of course you wouldn't use the weights for plush carpeting, but for the nasty tough stuff like berber and cgd, it's great.

HOS has a very nice weight set for the Orbot, but I decided to spend $20.00 first to see the results before spending $250.00 for the prettier setup. Plus my setup doesn't look bad when you consider that the dumbells are the same color as the deck. Heh, Heh.

Hope this helps someone.

Very smart idea! Sure beats a bag of rice!

So you don't find that the Orbot bogs down at all?

Also, is it much harder to change pads with the extra weight?

Sometimes I feel that the Orbot is too light to use fiberplus pads on cgd. This might be what I need to do.

The weight set Hos sells is 40 pounds for 20 for each side.
and additional 16LBs would not make th emachine bog at all

Thomas, it doesn't bog down in the least, and changing pads is not a problem either.
