Have a plane dump hundreds of gallons of DS over the slick - it will melt the oil and encapsulate it at the same time....

That was good. We'll send the boys at BP a few hundred gallons of DS. That should do the trick.

You actually bring up an interesting point. They use oil-loving polymers in some oil exploration and drilling operations.

Seems to me that someone would have installed a shut off valve in that line some where.

Oh there was a shut off valve. It exploded and it's lying somewhere on the bottom of Gulf of Mexico now. Shortsighted profiteers.

Since olefin carpets love oil so much and don't hold much water, why don't the make large sheets of olefin and drop them on the spill?
