I'm sure Drew will chime in, but what worked for me is a gentle tapping with a hammer, using a piece of 2x4 so as not to damage the platen, keep working it around the platen; also putting the 2x4 on the center shaft and tapping it while pulling the platen off...hope that helps

Joe

PS removing the c-clip wont let it just drop off...its a press fit, so its gonna take some work to remove! A torch will help loosen it IF its on there tight...

It can be difficult to remove the bowl on an older machine but Joe gave great advise. I use a rubber mallet to remove them in the shop, but if you don't have a rubber mallet a 2x4 is a great alternative.

What I found to work well is removing the tank and adjusting the handle down, you can step on the handle to take the head off the ground. Then you can take the mallet or hammer and hit the top of the bowl. Spin it after each time of hitting it and it will slowly come apart.
