wool

I cleaned an oriental wool carpet with Releasit DS and it smelled like a wet dog. I had to HWE to fix it. This has happened twice. I thought DS is safe to use on wool?

When wool is wet, it smells like a dog. We DS wool rugs all the time, whne dry, they smell fine. Did you dry it completely before smelling? Was it so dirty that it needed a HWE not just a VLM? That could be the problem as well.

What's it's origin ??

Was the wool rug made in India or Pakistan. ??

This, we have found, can have a big bearing on the odor.

Wool is animal hair - hence it always smells like a wet animal when it gets wet.

P.S. Releasit Encap-Clean, Encap-Clean DS, Encap-Basic, and Encap-HydrOx are all safe for wool. And Encap-HydrOx is awesome on wool (we get lots of positive feedback).

P.P.S. Always test for colorfastness when working with wool. Mix whatever detergent you're using in a pail. Dip the end of a white terry towel into the pail. Then dab and blot an inconspicuous section of the brightest color of the carpet/rug (preferably red) to see if there's any color transfer.

P.P.P.S. I'm starting to feel like Steve Toburen (master of the PS)
