Queensland Floods

Nothing to do with carpet cleaning, but here is a link to a video that shows just how quickly the channel water rose in Toowoomba today.

Bear in mind, Toowoomba is 2000' above sea level and has never had a flood before.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12158608

It has best been described as an "Inland Tsunami".

So far there have been at least ten deaths attributed to the floods and over 80 people missing.

Brisbane is due to cop it all within the next 36 hours, parts of Brisbane are already inundated with water.

Up & down

January 11 2011, 9:19 PM

The latest revision on the numbers is now:

10 confirmed deceased.

Missing persons revised down to 67

Bear in mind though that these numbers will fluctuate as time goes by.

The Brisbane River is due to peak, coinciding with an exceptionally high tide at 04:00am tomorow morning (Thursday) Queensland local time.

They are also predicting approximately 20,000 homes in the Brisbane district alone will be flooded.

Flooding of Northern New SOuth Wales is also getting severe now.

This will continue flooding further south as the water travels down the various rivers and flood plains.

The immensity of the flooding in Queensland alone is mind boggling.

Flood waters, two days ago, covered the equivalent of the entire state of New South Wales, ( 312,528 square miles ).

Many businesses & individuals will go under because of no insurance policies, or insurance policies that do not cover rising water, as the majority of policies do not cover rising water.

For those that have been here, here's the latest stories:

Just got an email update from Gary Bethel today. What he described in the Brisbane area is horrible. It's hard to even imagine what he described there. My heart goes out to all that have been affected by this freak weather condition.

Perils in the water

January 15 2011, 4:35 PM

Further to the above, with all the debris being washed down river, vehicles still have to be inspected for occupants.

The local police decided that they better come back in a boat to inspect this van in the river.
