cat urine

Bruce

I cleaned an apartment last week. Very bad urine smell and urine stains.
I flooded the worst areas with odorcide(8oz/gal)and Full Throttle(10oz/gal,then picked it up with my truckmount with a claw.
Then I used my Cimex with Hydrox(12oz/gal)with odorcide(4oz/gal). the next day stains and odor back. Suggestions?
What is available for locating urine areas (besides my nose)?
Thanks Guys and Gals

I have a large black light that i use to find pet stains if not noticeable. I often have my own rule of thumb, if i walk into a room and can smell urine, there is more urine in the carpet and pad that I can get out so I typically dont touch it, unless they really want me too. My guess is why the smell came back is that there is so much urine in the pad that you didnt get it all out and its still wet.

You used what i used so I cant help you other than telling them its time for new carpet happy.gif

Could be that the cat sprayed the walls also. Get a black light and get the room dark and look around - you might be amazed! Could be a rip out and the floor may need to be sealed or even replaced.
If it was me I would go in as the expert and even if they did the rip out as many apartment owners/managers do I would still get involved with the sealing. If it is in the floor or sheetrock it will still smell after new carpet is installed.
If you don't feel ready to do this type of work - RUN!

Blacklight

Definitely, a good black light is in order. Not all blacklights work well for locating urine. I have 3 different blacklights that I have tried and only 1 works really well. It's best to do it at night as any other light can skew your results and missing 1 spot can negate the whole process.

Cat Urine

I would purchase a moisture detector with the small prongs
on the end. These tools pick up moisture in the carpet real easy.
I used one many years ago to find cat urine. If the place looks like a dump & smells like one, it is better to pass on the job. Carpet & pad should be replaced. Once the urine has set in the carpet for a long period of time it shows the owners or renters don't really care, so don't break your neck trying to fix a mess.

Nancy and I have two cats. They're pretty good family members (generally speaking). But they occasionally get bladder stones. And they have pee'd on the carpet. And unfortunately cat urine has a skunky characteristic that can be very hard to eliminate. The absolute best trick I've found is Nature's Miracle. Put it on heavy and give it some dwell time. Try to work it into the backing and even the padding where the actual urine saturation has occurred. Nature's Miracle works as well or better than any carpet cleaning product from our industry that I've ever tried. It's the only product I'd rely on in my own home. After using it there's not even a trace of an odor. Give it a shot, it'll do the trickhttp://www.ilovenaturesmiracle.com/catalog/wheretobuy.php
