odor from wet wool rug

I am not use to doing wool rugs and only have about 4 or 5 under my belt. I was wondering if the loud wet dog smell is just a part of wool fiber cleaning? I use to hwe but the last year i have been encaping and have had 2 wool rugs that I used ds and rotary machine to clean. The odor is not as bad due to the low moisture but there is still dog smell in the air during cleaning. Sorry this seems so elementary but an answer would be very appreciated. By the way I think this is normal just need some confidence about that assumption.

We clean lots of wool rugs in our rug plant. You can watch us live during the week on our websitehttp://www.pearsoncarpetcare.com. So if you would like to email me to talk about this further feel free.

Now, I am assuming that the smell you are talking about is not because of the customer's dog. By that I mean dog hair, oils off of dog hair, or dog urine. If it is just the smell that you get wet when you get wool wet and not from a contaminant in the rug then that is normal. Wet wool will kind of smell like a wet dog but it will go away when the rug dries. If the smell is still there when the rug dries then it is probably not just a wool smell but an actual odor problem and it will need to be submersed in water and washed.

I hope that was clearer than mud, if you need more clarification feel free to email me.

Wool

First off - it has been years since I posted - just been too busy for such. But that wet dog smell with wool rugs and wool carpet is normal.

I do let clients know before hand it's going to 'smell like a wet dog' just until it's dry. I've done homes that have wool carpet wall to wall - the smell practically runs everyone out.

Second - I know many cleaners have a rug plan with emersion bath to clean wool rugs - awsome process.

However I have cleaned many (as in the hundreds at least) wool and silk persian, chinese, hand not-ted? and machine made rugs with the soft brushes - on location - no problems. I would advise consideration however as to high value antique type rugs - refer those elsewhere happy.gif
