Question for Shorty

Shorty, I'm sure you have probably dealt with this before on here, but would you care to say a little bit about your residential cleaning process? Since you use "Big Yella" in homes, I am curious how that works for you.
Do you just pre vac and then run the Mex with fiber pads?

You wanna know how I do it ???

March 5 2012, 11:25 PM

I am now doing less residential than before.

I only do work for one realtor, they know how I clean the carpets and are happy with the system.

I also have had the contract for Oz Defence for about nine years, after they saw the results using Big Yella, they insisted I use it in all their residences.

The system is simple.

Inspect first for any problems.

Thorough vacuum with my Dyson upright, I know, many dislike the "Die-soons", happy.gif but I've had a terrific run with them compared to other vacs; available down under.

(My other vac; is an 18" Windsor).

Treat stains as required.

This is usually with either Spot & Boost if a "solvent" is required, or a trigger sprayer with a mix of Punch in it.

Then it's clean with either Releasit, (sometimes Punch), or an Aussie brand which is Woolsafe approved.

Generally I use the beige pads but with that commercial the other day, I used the gray Maxi pads.

A lot of our carpet is poly; (I'm starting to see more "action back" lately), so grooming is usually not needed.

With wool or nylons, they're always groomed with the brush, not the rake.

With my Flight Centre stores, (the ones with the red carpet, I currently do five of these), I do not groom, but put "scalloped" swirls into the carpet which, since I did the first one, the other managers have also asked for.

They tell me the customers also comment on how great the carpet looks.

My spotting kit is from Vac-A-Way, having found this to have most everything I need that works, including stain removal using my Craig steamer, (or is it Black & Decker). sad.gif

I have had one realtor complain that I didn't clean to the Australian Standard 3733

We had some words in which I told her to stick to her job and I'll stick to mine.

She ended up accepting that I did get the carpets cleaner than what her cleaner could, and removed stains that he could not in a previous clean, then asked me if I would do her work.

I declined. happy.gif

I reckon that's about it.

Any questions, just ask.

I got nothing to hide, ('cept; from my LOCAL COMPETITION). wink.gif

Shorty.

Couple more questions

Just concerned about residential. What do you do about edges? Since you aren't using an "extraction" type pad, do you ever get any complaints about dirty socks?

Thanks Shorty.

Depends

I dunno what you blokes do over there, but us Aussies find it very difficult to walk along the edge right next to the wall. happy.gif

Generally it is only dust along the edges which the Die-soon takes care of.

Like I said, with wool or nylon, the carpet is groomed when finished, which evens it all out, including the corners.

Occasionally we will find where some liquid has been spilled, splashed or thrown onto the wall and run down into the carpet.

Then we may use our "Triangle brush", first given to me by Gary H Heacock about ten years ago at my first Connections in the Riviera.

I will generally run along the edge with a pump-up sprayer with my solution in, then hit it with the brush BEFORE running over it with Big Yella.

The solution in the pump sprayer is also what we use for cleaning upholstery.

Corners we treat the same way.

This brush has a small protruding piece on one end which I cut off flush to allow me to get right up against the wall as needed.

This brush is on a telescopic pole with a screwed end that we can swap over for a "doodle-bug", a flat piece of plastic with a red pad on it, or even a wider, firmer brush, but again, only if needed.

As an aside to this, "encap; in residential"................

I have to go and clean ONE BEDROOM in a $5M home in a couple of days, pure wool custom made carpet, which I will be using the Orbot on.

The owner doesn't want me taking Big Yella across her marble floors.

Her bedroom is the size of a small house here in Cairns, and this lady will NOT allow her carpet to be HWE by anyone. happy.gif

I've been looking after her since the house was built about ten years ago, starting out with WDR in several rooms.

If you Google 21 Knott Court, Whitfield, Queensland, her bedroom takes up the entire bend on the left of the photo.

Cheers,

Shorty

PS::: I forgot about the socks sad.gif

I think I can see where you're going with this, Marty has given up on me (I think) happy.gif

Never yet had a complaint, maybe because people down under won't walk across damp carpet in their socks, or maybe they wear colored socks, I don't know.

I can't remember the last time I had white socks, and I know for a fact that I have never walked on damp carpet in my socks, let along checked them out after doing what I never did. HUH ??? happy.gif

In the tropics, first thing people do when they get home, is get their gear off and relax in the pool with a coldie.

Least that's what I'm about to do now. wink.gif

Ooroo.
