Steps and Upholstery - leofry@1966 - 03-06-2013 what do you guy who are full time encap company do about steps and upholstery RE: Steps and Upholstery - DON ELDRED - 03-06-2013 You can do them by hand or with a small rotary tool Excellant Supply has a few options.. RE: Steps and Upholstery - encapman - 03-06-2013 Here are a few excellent options... The Drill Driver: Makes it possible to use an 8" FiberPlus pad or a bonnet for encapping stairs. http://www.excellent-supply.com/8-inch-Drill-Driver-Carpet-Cleaning-Accessory_p_10.html Our Rota-Brush: The soft bristles on the Brush make it perfect for upholstery. It can also be used for encapping stairs. http://www.excellent-supply.com/Rota-Drill-Brush-Attachment_p_15.html The Bonnet Mitt: Can be used for steps. But it might be too much elbow grease for a large staircase of heavily soiled stairs. However the Bonnet Mitt could be used along with the Rota-Brush Drill Driver above. It's also great for upholstery. http://www.excellent-supply.com/8-inch-Bonnet-Mitt-for-hand-spotting-and-upholstery-cleaning_p_479.html Gecko 3 Gallon Extractor: The Gecko extractor performs very well in these three functions. (1) Upholstery, (2) Spotting, (3) Stairs. And it's also a nice machine for cleaning car upholstery and carpet - guess that makes 4 things (but who's counting). http://www.excellent-supply.com/Gecko-Spot-Upholstery-Extractor_p_249.html RE: Steps and Upholstery - Jamie - 03-06-2013 When I Encap upholstery I spray then agitate with a handheld orbital sander with a Cimex fibre plus pad and then I extract with my spotting machine. Basically the same method for stairs except I don't often post extract stairs. Did a soiled cream sofa this morning and it looked almost brand new afterwards. Post extracting upholstery really helps dry times and minimizes wick backs. Cheers Jamie RE: Steps and Upholstery - encapman - 03-06-2013 Almost forgot. Another excellent tool for stairs is the Orbot Micro... http://www.excellent-supply.com/HOS-Orbot-Micro_p_357.html RE: Steps and Upholstery - MikeHabib - 03-07-2013 I use either a tool that Xerion solutions offers or an Oreck Orbitor. RE: Steps and Upholstery - Simon - 03-07-2013 I use the same method as Jamie except I use cotton polishing bonnets on my orbital sander. I find they absorb a bit of muck like using a cotton bonnet on carpet. Works well on steps too. I get a 2 pack of polishing bonnets for $10AUS so I can always crack out a fresh one on upholstery and then demote them to stair duty . RE: Steps and Upholstery - Jamie - 03-07-2013 Good to see you on here Simon, welcome to the forum. Remember as I mentioned to you to check out the old Encap forum as well, here's the link http://www.network54.com/Forum/228309/ RE: Steps and Upholstery - Simon - 03-07-2013 Cheers mate Ill have a gander RE: Steps and Upholstery - Cairnswun - 03-07-2013 This is what I use to clean steps. I keep it secure in a tool box. Pre-spray steps and risers first, or just pre-spray risers. Go up stairs using long handle cleaning risers. Get to top and replace long handle with short handle. Pre-spray treads, then clean treads coming back down. Very easy on an old back. Sometimes when they're really trashed I may have to resort to an extraction clean AFTER the Micro, then I will use this, (copied from an album, but I have the same tool. For upholstery, I use a Makita variable speed polisher, again, sometimes, I may need to resort to hwe after scrubbing. Another copy, but I have the same and also keep it in a Stanly tool box the same as the Micro Hos For my extraction, I use this little porty, only a 100psi, but a very powerful vac; motor. Preferred upholstery tools are HydroKinetic & Sapphire. Hope this helps. Shortwun. PS::: I'm also going to try something different for those tight little areas on upholstery. A microfiber cloth on a very small Black & Decker "Mouse", which is a small palm held orbital sander. PPS::::: Whatever you choose to clean, ALWAYS read the label first. I know this will be hard for men to comprehend. RE: Steps and Upholstery - MikeB - 03-07-2013 I used to use a Von Schrader Esprit. works very well but what a back killer!! I now use a small extractor or sometimes just pads and brush with bucket then extract or towel off depending on soil level. Mostly extractor on stairs. |
