Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - Derek - 03-13-2013

i've heard that the newer model Orbot (must be in the last several years??) has a different/better counter-balance than the older model. from the pic's, can anyone tell me if my Orbot is the older model with the old counter balance?

finally: does anyone else's bottom-half of their water pump scrape the top of the motor case? the are a few scrapes / gouges on top of the motor case, also it tore the power cord right out of the motor as you can see, it still runs fine though. this happened in '08 when i bought it within the first 3 uses, i just never did or said anything about it because i don't use it often enough...but i should have of course. back then the Orbot was new and going through "growing pains" i realize...as most new machines today do with little R&D.

are there any fixes for the scraping issue? it happens when you try to put the Orbot in the upright position. or when you try to flip the head all the way back to remove the pad. for years now i just flip the head back on a 45 degree angle to pull the pad off.

tx for any ideas! Smile

My suggestion would be to call Rodney at our office.
Rodney's amazing with everything mechanical.
If it can be sorted out - he'll be the one to figure it out.

Do I sound confident in my staff? Cool

Rod is good at that stuff i know from experience! tx Rick i'll give him a call in the next couple of days.

i just wonder if this happens to newer Orbots. or if this was an early-model flaw.

Derek, i have a new model and have not had those problems. But you should have called if anything just to let them know. Peter B. 2012 model

could that pump be upside down? Could you "Flip it" ? Move it up? or mount it sideways?
One of those should do it. I would flip it- bolt holes should match either way.

RE: Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - Derek - 03-13-2013

i will check F.C., thanx!

i know this is something i SHOULD be able to fix on my own, if only i was even slightly mechanically inclined. and when i realize what i should have done it will be one of those DUHHH moments lol.

i looked more closely at the pulled wire and inside the box the white plastic is frayed exposing the copper wire. i will have to unscrew that "box" cover and wrap that with electrical tape and tighten the inner ring...w/e that is called...then tighten down the outer aluminum bracket thingy, into the top of that box where the wire goes.

basically the bottom of the Sprayborg comes crashing down if i put the handle all the way forward. if i put the handle back one notch, then i can't lift the head totally upright or else the bottom of the pump will crush the wire coming out of the top of that box.

i spoke with Rod today and he is looking into a fix for it tomorrow. i'll post updates on how it gets fixed since other's have the same 2008 model and might need to know for future reference.

i was about to turn the water pump 180 degrees but now i am wondering, maybe it is supposed to work in that position? i mean look at the 2nd pic, maybe those 2 hoses that exit/enter the water pump on the lower end of it, are supposed to exit/enter it on the bottom because of gravity??

RE: Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - FloorCareMD - 03-13-2013

no.. pump should work the other way just fine. that it how most pumps in RV's are installed.
Solution tank is above the pump, right?, so gravity will still get the H2O there no matter the position.

another thing you could do is move the wire to the side of the box (if it has the interior room for it) and also plug the existing hole with a conduit snap in plug.

RE: Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - Derek - 03-13-2013

yep the sol tank is above the pump, i see what you mean. i will try that tomorrow. after all is said and done i might just remove the entire Sprayborg assembly and use the Orbot sans the Sprayborg...or sell it to someone that can use the Sprayborg. idk if this model Sprayborg will fit onto a new model Orbot though. not sure about keeping or selling yet. since i can't clean resi carpet without dwell time, the Sprayborg is never used.

re: the motor/power box, both great ideas! yep i see where i can punch out a hole and do the side entrance like you said (if there is room inside), i would just have to make sure the cord has clearance from the handle when it goes into the upright position, before punching that hole out.

tx alot F.C. Smile

RE: Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - FloorCareMD - 03-13-2013

Good thinking on that. Better idea, I think???? try flipping the electrical box upside down so the hole is on the bottom and no new hole needed ( if the pump moving idea does not work out). Wire should then be out of the way of everything.

looking closer at your photos now and see that there may be other wires coming from the bottom. Are there?? If so, the original idea of a new hole on the bottom instead of the side should work.

I am thinking of loading the car with my tools and driving down there to get this machine repaired. Smile

RE: Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - Derek - 03-14-2013

you live in Maryland?

drive where?

RE: Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - FloorCareMD - 03-14-2013

Oh, you from Maryland??
That is Raven's territory. Being a Steeler fan, I'll just stay home then. Wink

They just dumped so many of their key players they too seem to be in need of repairs and much help. at least my Pirates may look promising this year. (heard that before, like the past 20 years)

RE: Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - Derek - 03-14-2013

no i live in western NY state near Rochester.

what part of PA are you from? i have a lot of great friends not far from Allentown.

one of my local friends is a huge Steelers fan, a bunch of us went to the Steelers stadium (3 rivers??) to see the Cincinnati game there a few November or Decembers back...they lost at home but it was a blast.

i just checked out another forum and someone is giving away for free an Oreck Orbiter, you have to pick it up though. he lives in Telford, PA.

RE: Pic's of my 2008 Orbot - FloorCareMD - 03-15-2013

I am near Pittsburg, Johnstown area.

Oh! I see why you said Maryland. It is the MD in FloorCareMD.
That MD is another way of saying Dr. as in doctor. We were originally called Tile Dr. but some boob from Atlanta lawyered me with a cease and desist to stop using our business name a few years back. We had it first, and we were not similar in business types, but he Trade Marked it. Was not worth the fight so we changed to FloorCareMD, which we TM'd.
follows the theme of our product names
