Alright how many of you book cleaning jobs on Saturdays? I don't as a general rule unless it is a large commercial office that there is no other time to do it. When my dad and I went into business we decided that if we couldn't make a living monday - friday then we needed to find something else to do. So we have never booked on Saturdays. Besides I would miss so many family things if I booked on Saturdays.

I do not turn down work, within reason. If I get a job I do not want, I have a friend who will do it and I get a cut. I invest as much as possible into the business and retirement. I stay busy with work and social. I have a great life.

my rule is 4 vacations a year.

We have Lake Tahoe, Carmel, San Francisco, and Napa wine country close by as well for a day visit.

I am working this Saturday......

Ok just to be clear. I turn down very little work. I have found that if I tell people we don't work on Saturdays so we can be with our families then most people will still schedule for a day during the week. Very few people will hang up on me. I would much prefer to be at my kids soccer games, volleyball games, etc than working on the weekends.

we have too many comm clients to keep Saturdays free.

in 2012 we worked 28 out of the 52 Saturdays.

i don't mind a bit. when i was working for someone else i surely minded then! funny how it changed when it was my own $.

I work at least 50% of the Saturated, if they schedule them, if they call at 3 pm aand say can you come clean then say no almost all the time... I will say this about your post... as long as you are happy and making it... well i doubt that on my death bed i will say ... gosh i wish i had cleaned a few more carpets... but i might say i wish i had a few more Saturdays off, spend more time with family and friends... so i say don;t worry about what we are anyone says... your the captain of the ship...

This song pretty much explains why I limit my Saturday's. My boys have 2 full days a week that I Personally can make an impression on them and help shape them into young men.. That's a large portion of why our society is what it is, many people grow there children they don't raise them. It's a shame many people sucking from the government, don't work and still don't "raise" there kids...I have worked many weekends before my children and will work many more when my boys move on..(hopefully be working by my side)but for now I'll take the lyrics and learn by them..we all have to make choices and I wish everyone the best results from the choices they have made...by the way a large majority of my customers are residential and leave the key for me..I have groomed it that way and most commercial jobs I can do late nights

Rob I agree. It is just a different way of looking at things. When I worked for someone else in a small town we were not expected to work weekends and I loved that. I moved back to Houston to open this up 12 years ago and decided I would do that same thing. Now that I have employees I find it easier than most companies to keep them for a long time and one of the reasons is we don't work weekends.

hey if you guys don't need to work Saturdays then that is great. i def don't prefer it. but i dont have kids and certainly dont mind it. Sunday work is very rare...maybe once every 3 years. but even that, i don't say i never will like i used to when i was working for "the man" lol.

one of our clients for the past 7 years just upsized and moved into their 3rd facility. the size means we will probably be working all Saturday and half a Sunday twice a year now. not especially looking forward to that, but it will be a good check so we're happy to do it.

BTW as far as resi work goes, i don't work weekends for those.

Prodrying what is your trick???? We offer Sat. mornings 8:00 to 12:00 and book maybe 1 -2 jobs a month.
We also offer water damge and have a couple of large land lords and commercial clients and never fails it will be a nite call and wknds and holidays and could never tell them we will be there Monday morning.

We work 6 days a week sometimes 7, it depends what needs to be done and what the clients need, being 60% commercial means having to be flexible with the schedule. The great thing is I have done a lot of week day stuff with my children. While others are working we would go out and play. nothing like the amusement part on a Tuesday afternoon or the ocean. AS long as i get one day off the day does not matter to me. We home school so I guess that helps out

Yep, if the work is there I would work 7 days a week. I'ved done this for so long it doesn't bother me. Right now I'm still doing 7 days a week with a commerical job.

Yes family first- work second. My kids are all grown and have families. My wife is as busy as I am, we have a great relationship and she is my biggest cheerleader. Boy that help as I know several men who have demanding wives and would not be pleased with a 6-7 day a week work schedule. I do play the guitar mostly on the weekends at country clubs and wineries, but as fun as it is, it still qualifies as work.

Peter we still have to do the water damage work when it comes in and check them daily. In this thread I was just talking about carpet cleaning though. I see so many carpet cleaners who love to work on Saturday and Sundays and when I posted this I had just run into one of my competitors who was complaining about having to work on the weekends and they were all small cleaning jobs. So I was just wondering how many of you want to work on Saturday and Sundays cleaning carpet. If I could schedule the water damage jobs for Monday - Friday I would, that's just not feasible though.
