Random orbital for edges
#1
Greetings,

I have the Orbot Sprayborg and Orbot Micro, and I want to get another smaller random orbital machine with one head to get into tighter spaces. I want to be able to use 6 inch pads, have a Velcro backing and be able to apply a range of force suitable for upholstery up to stone. I have a marble project coming up and I want to be able to cut in close to polish and achieve the same gloss that I will get from the Orbot.

I have been looking at Griot's Garage 10813STDCRD and PORTER-CABLE 7346SP. The Griot's seems a bit more ergonomic to me. Does anyone recommend these machines or others that may work better?

You might consider getting an Angle Grinder. That's what you need for polishing marble. And in fact, you can use our Drill Driver on an Angle Grinder along with 8" FiberPlus pads for cleaning in tight areas. I think that approach would serve your needs best.

Makita or similar variable speed polisher, looks like a big angle grinder, surprisingly ergonomic, and great torque at low revs. The 1200w Makita has the velcro backing perfect for the fibreplus pads. Tight areas, stairs, upholstery, Works like a charm!

Thanks for those recommendations. I am going to try out some of the Makitas at Home Depot today. The Orbot Micro could be more versatile and would closely fill my needs with a couple of rubber hook and loop plates that extend about two more inches from the base. I would be able to polish pretty effectively at an angle. If the hook and loop could accept the centers of the stone flash pads, that would make for some pretty nice efficiency.
