I just ordered one. It is $240. I had the older one and the bearing just went out.

Derek, according to HOS the main change to the current style counterweight assembly is the bearing itself. It is a better make and quality. They have also changed the amount of weight on the counterweight plate itself. By reducing the offset weights it gets slightly more RPMs. The mounting of the bearing on the counterweight plate has also changed, however I don't believe that has any affect on the performance, it just makes replacing the bearing easier. Another change is the shaft support spacer behind the counterweight assembly.
I hope that helps...

Ok,here's the simplified english version.... the long and the short of it is the new counterweight assembly won't change anything with regard to how your deck sits and you won't notice much if any difference in how it performs, and it looks almost the same as the original counterweight assembly. Changing it out is not for a beginner but it is doable if you have some mechanical ability. If you want some direction on the parts needed and a rundown of how to do it, call me here at Excellent Supply. 正體中文 (繁體) LOL

Finally got my counterbalance and got my orbot on the road again. I forgot how quiet it used to be, but the new one definitely fixed that. Man have I missed it. So much easier than a rotary and an awesome job as usual. You don't know what you got 'till it's gone. You really only need the bearing piece. The counterweight looked and felt the same as my old one, just a little shinier. But what a huge difference. The folks at excellent supply were awesome. Thanks Rodney and Brenda.

Is the vario's beefier plate/counterbalance assembly able to be mounted on the orbot. The Vario's look like they are better built.
