It may be beneficial to first spray very lightly with water (or a bit of encap if you feel generous) and give it a quick once over with the crb. That will help make the fiber willing to move around. Point out that they are getting a free touch-up!
Then use your grooming rake. Some carpet is so cheaply made that they are going to see the rows of tufted fiber once you raise the nap with a crb. If that is what is happening, show them. That is not a cleaning flaw, it is cheap carpet. When it was dirty and squashed down, perhaps it looked dense.
