And yet on moderately soiled carpets, we can often just scrub the carpet with no additional dwell time.

Normal scrubbing with the Cimex consists of a wet pass followed by a dryish pass. The dwell time gets factored in from the the initial wet pass. Although it's a fairly brief amount of dwell time, there is also a good measure of agitation mixed into the equation.

So there are a lot of variables. Yet to a greater or lesser extent, dwell time is a factor in all the cleaning approaches listed above.
