Ta for that & yes, that's the way I do it, 'cept; I take the nozzle of and stick the the hose right over the brass outlet, it's a snug fit also. 
Crikey, I thought poor old Marty from 'Bama; was the only one I ever confused over there.
Yep, My Golden Oldie does get cleaned out regularly also, not once in a decade.
I also use a small round file to scrape the gunk out.
