It truly depends on the severity of the contamination and the carpet's fabric. If there is a pet urine problem and the liquid didn't have the chance to penetrate into the fabric, then any type of enzymatic cleaner can do the trick. In case the stain has been there for a while, then the hot water extraction method should do the trick.
