Another word/term for Owner/Operator?
#1
i am making up new business cards...just slightly editing my old ones. i've never been fond of the term "owner / operator", can anyone give me some alternative expressions? it already states that i'm a Certified Commercial Carpet Care Specialist (got "Certified" by Lee's several years ago.)

Owner operator on your card does sound a little like you're a one-man band. And that's not necessarily bad. In fact, that can be a good marketing approach, if you're looking to keep your business niche on the smallish side. There's nothing wrong with that strategy if it reaches your target market.

I'm thinking that a slogan such as... "Personalized Professional Service" would get a similar more positive message across, without giving the impression that you're small.

I keep mine simple as below:

Get Shorty
Carpet & Upholstery Care

Delia & Shorty Glanville

Land & Cell Numbers

Website address

All of the above is centered and I have no recognition as to what I am such as:

Owner / Operator / Partner / Manager, etc;

On the reverse, we have the different services we provide. (But NOT on the magnets). :-)

Previously, my cards/magnets only had MY name & Manager on them due to me being the one always dealing with the customer.

Putting Delia's name on them let the Lady of the house or business feel that bit more comfortable and many times she would get the cup of coffee, cake and a chat while I kept working. :-(

Unless you are a very large business, does it really matter what designation you place on your card?

Some in Oz would think it "pompous" for a carpet cleaner to have his all important details there. LOL.

yea i didn't necessarily want "President / CEO" on the card.

but something kind of new and fresh. "owner / operator" just has an older/outdated feel to me Tongue

"The Boss" kinda adds some humor to it...idk if i can get away with it though Big Grin

Derek,

I would say if it works for you, don't change it. However, if you must change it Rick has a good idea. I just have Master Certified Cleaning Technician under my name. It works for me.

General Manager

'General Manager' is just an idea.

In actuality, my cards just have my name - no title. If I had to give myself a title it would be Chief Carpet Scrubber or words to that effect.

LOL That's a good one.Big Grin

But you know what? A little humor is not a bad idea. Especially in marketing. We're dealing with "humans". And folks appreciate a human touch. A bit of humor can go a long way.

Depending on how hairy the week's been, sometimes I feel "slave laborer" would be appropriate! Don't get me wrong, we feel very blessed with our business.
