Thanks from Down Under

Hi there guys,

I am a newbie to this forum and I would like to say a "Huge" thank you to all of those who have contributed to this great forum and provided such valuable and useful information. It is a huge credit to you all.

I would like to say a special thank you to Rick for creating such a great resource. But creating a resource is one thing, taking the time to actually actively contribute & maintain it to the level that you do is what makes it an exceptional resource. I don't know you personally but your enthusiasm for our industry appears to be 2nd to none.

I would also like to say a very big thank you to Shorty whose contribution of his many years of
industry experience & sense of humor while delivering it not only makes for great reading but his information is always relevant & concise. Your generosity in providing your experience is one of the biggest things that sets you apart. Without blowing too much smoke up your ar#% you have inspired me.

Just a bit about me. I entered this great industry just under 12 months ago and have been doing residential until now and I couldn't be happier with the progression so far but it is time for me to now seek out commercial work (I plan on buying a Cimex within 2 months & using Rick's chemicals). I spent approx 15 years in corporate sales & marketing roles which has been a huge benefit in starting my business. I was over the whole corporate scene & started my own small commercial cleaning company which was also great for the years that I did it. I have just spent the last few years managing my father's retail carpet Store where they had a huge focus on commercial installations so this was fantastic for learning about commercial carpet & VCT (not so much the cleaning but understanding fibers, install, manufacturers, problems & solutions etc etc etc. My father has decided to retire after 40+ years in the carpet game & is selling up for retirement. So here I am in the carpet cleaning game & loving it.

So I will end this essay now by saying thank you to you guys & I hope I can be a contributor to this great & friendly forum.

Cheers from Down Under.

Hi Jamie,
welcome to the greatest encapsulation forum on the planet, and thanks for giving me such a swollen head to match my over-sized ego. :-)

I truly enjoy helping people out IF I can.

When I started, I received little to no help from others, (we had no internet back then and reference books as such, were unheard of, let alone courses), so I had to make many mistakes along the way which I was able to learn from, and not make that same mistake again.....

My greatest moment in the industry was when I met this bloke and his missus at The Riviera Casino a decade or so ago, and this bloke said to me:

"Shorty, forget all you know about hot water extraction and just do as I say".

That day changed my life completely.

Thank you Nancy & Rick. :-)

The next step for you, in my opinion, is to get the worlds' best almanac (Bible), on commercial carpet cleaning, namely, Rick's CMS ( Commercial Marketing System ).

Also check out his web site:

http://www.excellent-supply.com/

Fantastic information in the BLOG section.

Gary & James Bethel ( PowerClean Australia ), have also been very instrumental in making my work so much better, stick with these guys and reap the rewards.

Hey Shorty,

Thanks for your reply.

I have ordered Rick's Releasit chemicals from Jim & Garry from Power Clean & they should arrive tomorrow.

I tried to order Rick's CMS but because I'm in the land of Oz as well, there were a few issues with the shopping cart & being from Oz. No biggy. This was Saturday Arvo (late Friday night in Miami) I sent an email to Excellent Supply, and as soon as they opened on Monday I received an email to say that they were in the process of fixing it & all would be ok. Good service. Can't wait to get it. It looks like the "Ducks Nuts" for attacking Commercial in a professional manner. Thanks for the heads up.

I know you have a Cimex and I think you have an Orbot? Which machine do you prefer for Commercial & Residential? I know you Encap a lot of residential so I am interested on both counts. I would also like to hear from anyone else who may like to offer an opinion who may have used both machines.

Cheers

G'day Jamie and Shorty,

Took the advise of both of you and decided to sign up to this forum.

Did my first commercial encap job today. Over 1000 sq metres (not feet!), 3/4 of it encap. Looks brilliant.

Would really, really like to extend my thanks to Shorty as well, who has guided and mentored me through the encap process, prior to purchasing the equipment (cimex) and leading up to this first job, and given me lots of great advise backed up by phone calls, emails, pm's etc. Very rare to find somebody who is willing to help without any personal gain. A true gentleman and guru!

Hey Phil,

Well done on your job mate. Obviously the job looked great when you finished and that is fantastic, I'm really glad to hear that.

I hope you don't mind if I ask you for a few more details as know this was your first bigger commercial job.

How did you go with the Cimex? How long did it take you? Was there any challenges you came across?
Did you use the fibre Plus pads?

I have my first commercial job coming up this week, approx 350m2. Polyprop CGD. Will be doing that
with a rotary and beige fibre pads + Realeasit. As you know I am in the market for a Cimex but I don't have one just yet.

Great to hear the result was a good one. Bet you can't wait to get some more now.

Cheers

G'day Jamie,

I got several boxes of the beige pads with the Cimex - not 100% sure if they were the fibre plus or not, but they do a very good job of agitating the fibre. I did not use Releasit, as much as I would have liked to have. I am planning to get my hands on some Punch, and I hope Rick doesn't get upset with what I am about to say, but Releasit is very expensive here in Aust. We are paying twice what the yanks are for it on a $/litre basis. I used Sonitron's Zenith, and boosted with some Chemox. I use a number of Sonitron products for HWE and stain removal, and they make some very good stuff.

Made up a 10:1 spotter for the really bad areas. Pre-sprayed these, then just went over them as per normal. I don't have the drill attachment for doing stairs, so I sprayed these with the pump pack, and scrubbed them with a deck scrubber. Did the edges against the wall with pump pack and stiff broom. The only issue I had was with two of the pad drivers. They are held onto the driver with double-sided tape, and came off towards the end of job. I went down the hardware store and bought some double sided tape. Crisis averted.

I also had quite a bit of flotex on the job. I flooded the bad areas with flotex fixit, and scrubbed with the cimex (not releasing the encap fluid). I hot water extracted the rest of the flotex, but one of the vac motors packed it in with maybe 20-30 m2 of flotex left. So I encapped it. This isn't the way to clean it technically, but I know it can be done. Cimex doesn't like flotex though, only wanted to operate in reverse direction due to friction, and shoots foam out everywhere. Looked miraculous when foam settled though. Quite fitting for a church Smile

Nice work Phil, bugger about the Vac Motor. At this point I haven't done any Flotex yet. From what I have read it's a different beast to clean.

I would be interested how you find the Releasit compared to the Sonitron when you get some. I've been using it for about a week and the punch & DS combo is an impressive combination. Yes you are completely correct in saying we get slammed on the price though.

Thanks for the info mate.
