When I Encap upholstery I spray then agitate with a handheld orbital sander with a Cimex fibre plus pad and then I extract with my spotting machine. Basically the same method for stairs except I don't often post extract stairs. Did a soiled cream sofa this morning and it looked almost brand new afterwards. Post extracting upholstery really helps dry times and minimizes wick backs.
