Does the tilting head of the Mex adjust to the appropriate ride height and allow for the bigger wheels?
Because the floating head is pivoting on two pivots, it adjusts correctly.
Do you need to replace the Axle when swapping the wheels?
As far as I'm aware, Ricks' Big Wheel kit comes with an axle, but I may be wrong.
I notice that Rick's Big Wheel Kit does not appear to have pneumatic tyres? Is this correct?
Being down under, the kit supplied here does not have pneumatic tires.
Having said this, I think I had the first Big Wheel conversion on my machine.
I sourced the pneumatic tires and had the inner section of the wheels reamed out to fit the axle.
Are there any benefits to Solid tyres over pneumatic? I was thinking pneumatic may be the way to go but am unsure about that. Would this cause too much bounce on stairs?
Being old, short and fat, I prefer the pneumatic tires which act like shock absorbers, they don't cause bounce unless you run down the stairs faster than me.
Apart from that, the overall benefit of the larger wheels is easier use, safer to take up and down stairs, loading and unloading is easier and you can take it over rough terrain where you could never take Big Yella with the standard small, hard wheels.
Also, the standard wheels will lock-up under stairs with a bull-nose making it very easy to do your back in trying to pull it over the riser.
Bite the bullet and just get the Big Wheel kit, you can thank me later.
Thanks gents
Jamie
PS::: My wheels are probably TOO BIG at 12 &1/4", but I like 'em big.
I think the Big Wheel kits are 11", ask Rick.
